It&#8217;s where scholarship student and <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa sophomore <strong>Kadee Kalia Tamashiro<\/strong> met <strong>Ted Tsukiyama<\/strong> in 2015. Tsukiyama is responsible for her Varsity Victory Volunteers Scholarship. <\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/scholarships-dinner.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" class=\"size-full wp-image-31737\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/scholarships-dinner.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/scholarships-dinner-260x146.jpg 260w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/> <abbrÂé¶¹´«Ã½students get a chance to thank the people or organizations that fund their scholarships.[\/caption]\n\n\n\n<p>&ldquo;It&#8217;s a really great opportunity to be able to mahalo those who have helped me in my educational journey,&rdquo; said Tamashiro. &ldquo;It&#8217;s just really good to get to know them and get to hear why they feel like they&#8217;re giving back to the students.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We feel we are an integral part of the university and the university structure,&rdquo; said Tsukiyama. &ldquo;An opportunity to provide scholarships, we definitely wanted to be part of that.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Learn more about Ted Tsukiyama, the <a href=\"http:\/\/uhalumni.org\/s\/1220\/index.aspx?sid=1220&#038;gid=1&#038;pgid=968\">2012 Âé¶¹´«Ã½Founders Alumni Association Lifetime Achievement Award winner<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The celebration draws hundreds of scholarship students and their benefactors each year. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It is important because it&#8217;s an opportunity for us to thank the donors who have made such a difference in students lives,&rdquo; said <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa Chancellor <strong>Robert Bley-Vroman<\/strong>. &ldquo;And for students to meet the donors whose work and whose donations have transformed their own lives.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>In 1976, the first permanently endowed scholarship was created by the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Foundation to benefit students attending the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>. Today, the foundation manages more than 1,500 scholarship accounts. In 2014 alone, students from <abbr>UH<\/abbr>&#8217;s ten campuses received more than $11 million in scholarship aid from the foundation.
