Business Technology Instructor <strong>Warren Kawano<\/strong> of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leeward.hawaii.edu\/\">Leeward Community College<\/a> was honored with <abbr>HBEA<\/abbr>&#8217;s Outstanding Career and Technical Student Organization Advisor award. Both were presented with their award at the <abbr>HBEA<\/abbr> state conference in Honolulu on January 31.<\/p>\n<h2>More on Anne Chung<\/h2>\n<p>Anne Chung graduated from the <a href=\"http:\/\/hilo.hawaii.edu\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at Hilo<\/a> with a bachelor&#8217;s degree in Japanese studies, a minor in business administration, and a teaching certificate. She began her teaching career in 1993 as a high school teacher and worked for the Department of Education for 16 years. While teaching full time at the high school level, she earned her master&#8217;s degree in occupational studies from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.csulb.edu\/\">California State University at Long Beach<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Having taught at <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr> since 2009, she is a Gen <abbr title=\"seven\">VII<\/abbr> Wo Learning Champion and a Gen <abbr title=\"eight\">VIII<\/abbr> Community Colleges Leadership Champion, and in 2014 she received the <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/graduate\/content\/frances-davis-award-excellence-undergraduate-teaching\">Frances Davis Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching<\/a>. She is an active <abbr>HBEA<\/abbr> member and is currently the <abbr>HBEA<\/abbr> president. She has served as <abbr>HBEA<\/abbr> president-elect, vice president, awards committee chair and state conference chair. She also serves on the Western Business Education Association executive board and this year will serve on the association&#8217;s nominating committee.<\/p>\n<p>Chung aims to challenge and inspire students to achieve their objectives by celebrating their successes while encouraging them to improve. Her teaching style encourages application of course content to real-world contexts to make the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr> <a href=\"http:\/\/hawaii.hawaii.edu\/beat\/businesstech\/\">business technology<\/a> program relevant and attractive to students and valuable to employers.<\/p>\n<h2>More on Warren Kawano<\/h2>\n<p>Warren Kawano has 10 years of teaching experience at the secondary and postsecondary level. He holds a bachelor of arts in business and marketing education from the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at M&#257;noa and a master of business administration with a concentration in finance from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hpu.edu\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Pacific University<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Kawano has taught at Leeward <abbr>CC<\/abbr> since 2008 as a part-time lecturer and full time since fall 2010. Prior to teaching at the college, Kawano was a high school business teacher and the director of the Academy of Finance at Waipahu High School from 2004 to 2010. He has advised the Phi Beta Lambda (<abbr>PBL<\/abbr>)\/Enactus Business Club at Leeward since starting full time in fall 2010. Since taking over the <abbr>PBL<\/abbr>\/Enactus Business Club, he has increased membership from 6 to more than 30 and implemented many projects such as the Holiday and Spring Fairs, Dress for Success Clothing Drive, Interview and Professional Dress Workshops, the Student Business Competition and Career Dynamics Week at Leeward <abbr>CC<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n<p>Kawano believes that student learning expands far beyond the classroom and that participation in clubs, projects and initiatives outside of the classroom are vital to a student&#8217;s personal and professional growth.
