Honolulu CC<\/abbr>’s Student Chapter members<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Honolulu Community College<\/a> received 1st place honors as the Outstanding Student Chapter in the National Association of Home Builders<\/a> (NAHB<\/abbr>) awards ceremony on Tuesday, January 13 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Each year, chapters are recognized for their outstanding achievements in chapter and campus activities, community service projects, fundraising and other programs.<\/p>\n

“The construction management students deserve this award,” shares Norman Takeya<\/strong>, assistant professor of the construction management<\/a> program at Honolulu CC<\/abbr>. “They have worked hard in a number of community service projects along with their volunteer work with the Building Industry Association (BIA<\/abbr>) of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span><\/a>. They are an awesome bunch of students who do a great job representing the college.”<\/p>\n

The student chapter helped with various community service events throughout the year such as the sustainable tire wall at the Halawa Xeriscape Garden which created more available planting space. They also volunteered at the Home Building and Remodeling Show<\/a> in January and the Remodel it Right\u2013GREEN Expo<\/a> 2014 in September. In March 2014, the students were able to put together two groups of students to compete in the BIA<\/abbr> Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Stew Challenge.<\/p>\n

“This has been an amazing honor for the NAHB<\/abbr> Student Chapter at Honolulu Community College. Much appreciation goes out to our advisor, Mr. Takeya for pushing us to succeed in our career choice of becoming construction managers and to our local NAHB<\/abbr> Chapter, BIA<\/abbr> Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> for being a great support to all of our endeavors,” says Lalana Moe, Honolulu CC<\/abbr> construction management student and chapter president.<\/strongb><\/p>\n
