Legendary coach Dave Shoji<\/strong> looks back on four exciting decades of the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Mānoa women’s volleyball team<\/a> in his new book, Wahine Volleyball: 40 Years Coaching Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>’s Team<\/em> (UH<\/abbr> Press<\/a>). The book features the history of the Rainbow Wahine volleyball team—four-time national champions and consistently among the top-ranked teams in college sports.<\/p>\n

His memoir traces the history and rise of the program—from 1975, when he was hired as a part-time coach and matches were held in Klum Gym; through the late 1970s and the 1980s, which saw the start of the Booster Club and excitement of playing in front of sold-out crowds at Honolulu’s Blaisdell Arena; into the 1990s with the team’s move to its current home at the Stan Sheriff Center, attracting the sport’s largest and most devoted following; to the landmark 2013 season when Shoji became the winningest coach in NCAA<\/abbr> history.<\/p>\n

The book was written by Shoji and Ann Miller, a recently retired sports reporter for the Honolulu Star-Advertiser<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The UH<\/abbr> Mānoa Bookstore<\/a> hosts the authors for a special in-store book signing on Wednesday, November 12, 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m. The public is invited.<\/p>\n

Attendees will have a chance to meet Coach Shoji and Miller, purchase a copy of their book and get it signed by the authors. The Mānoa Bookstore will also give customers a free Rainbow Wahine volleyball T-shirt with a Wahine Volleyball<\/em> book purchase during the event, while supplies last. Shoji and Miller will also be signing their book at Barnes and Noble in the Ala Moana Center on Saturday, November 15, 1–2:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
