As part of the Aloha United Way campaign, the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> has initiated an AUW<\/abbr> softball “participation challenge” among the six Oʻahu<\/span> campuses and the UH<\/abbr> System offices. The campus with the highest percentage of Aloha United Way contributors (based on the number of employees at the individual campuses), will not only earn bragging rights, its softball team will earn an automatic “bye” in the first round of play at the UH<\/abbr>-Aloha United Way Charity Softball Tournament held on October 17. The campus teams having the second and third highest percentage of contributors will earn a two and one run advantage, respectively, in either their first or second game.<\/p>\n

As of Friday, October 3, 2014, the two front runners in the participation challenge are the UH<\/abbr> System offices and Leeward Community College with over 8 percent each. The rest of the campuses are not far behind and there is still plenty of time to bring up those numbers.<\/p>\n

The final tally for the participation challenge will be based on the percentage of pledges received by AUW<\/abbr> as of noon on October 15. The winners will be announced before the start of the tournament.<\/p>\n

The 8th University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Aloha United Way Charity Softball Tournament for Oʻahu<\/span> campuses is on Friday, October 17, 5:30–10 p.m. at UH<\/abbr> Mānoa’s Les Murakami Stadium. Sodexo will be providing a concession stand, which will include food and soft drinks. Please note that no alcoholic beverages will be served and that consumption of alcohol is prohibited in the UH<\/abbr> Mānoa Les Murakami Stadium, including the adjacent parking lots. Let’s make it a safe and enjoyable event for all!<\/p>\n
