Michelle Colte<\/strong>, a librarian at Hale Kula Elementary<\/a>, has been named the 2014 School Librarian of the Year by School Library Journal<\/em><\/a>. She graduated in 2004 with her master’s degree in library and information science from the Library and Information Science (LIS<\/abbr>) Program<\/a> at the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Mānoa.<\/p>\n

This prestigious award honors K–12 school library professionals for outstanding achievement and exemplary use of 21st century tools and services. She was selected over 90 other nominees across the nation. Colte received a $2,500 cash award and another $2,500 worth of materials from Scholastic Library Publishing<\/a>, the award’s sponsor. A panel of school librarians, journal editors and industry professionals from Scholastic publishing and the International Society for Technology in Education<\/a> judged the award nominations.<\/p>\n

Colte is featured in a cover story<\/a> in the September 2014 issue of School Library Journal<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Among Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>’s school librarians, Colte is widely acknowledged as a technology innovator. Last year, she was one of 50 educators worldwide selected to participate in the Google Teacher Academy<\/a> held in Sydney, Australia.<\/p>\n
