UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa College of Education and Sendai University officials at the memorandum of understanding signing.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

On September 3, 2014, the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Mānoa College of Education<\/a> and Sendai University<\/a> signed a memorandum of understanding. After more than a decade of collaboration—primarily in the field of athletic training—the institutions will further their partnership through research, scholarly materials and exchange opportunities.<\/p>\n

Since 1967, Sendai University has been the only university that specializes in physical education and sports and health sciences in northern Japan. Through the years, the university has expanded its areas of study to include health and welfare, sports nutrition and modern martial arts.<\/p>\n

For the next five years, members of Sendai University will continue visiting the College of Education to attend athletic training and cadaver anatomy classes and to observe athletic training programs at local high schools, such as McKinley High School<\/a>, where Tomoki Kanaoka<\/strong> serves as an athletic trainer. Kanaoka, who is from Japan, was supported by Sendai University to attend the College of Education and earned his master’s degree from Department of Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science. Both institutions will participate in seminars, conference and workshops as well as develop an exchange program for kinesiology and rehabilitation science majors.<\/p>\n
