The Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Music Institute<\/a> at Windward Community College<\/a> presents Music Workshops 2014<\/a> on May 23 and 31. Students can explore rhythm on the drums from Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>’s premier drummer Noel Okimoto<\/strong>, and polish their slack key guitar skills with Slack Key Master Ron Loo<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

Cost for each workshop is $20. To register, call (808) 235-7433 or go in person to the Office of Career and Community Education, Hale Kuhina building<\/a> at Windward Community College.<\/p>\n

From jazz to rock and roll, embrace world influences and have fun grooving and beating on drums. Noel Okimoto<\/a> is an award-winning jazz drummer and orchestral percussionist. He has performed with the Woody Herman Orchestra, Stan Getz, Barney Kessel, Sadao Watanabe, Wynton Marsalis, Henry Mancini, Nelson Riddle, Rosemary Clooney, Dionne Warwick and Jake Shimabukuro. <\/p>\n

Slack Key Guitar with Ron and Pomaikaʻi<\/span> Loo<\/h2>\n

Saturday, May 31, 10 a.m.–noon
\nHale Pālanakila 104<\/p>\n

This workshop will focus on the open G tuning and the chords and lyrics of a traditional song using the tablature method. Ron Loo<\/a> is a respected kumu mele, gifted instructor, entertainer, slack key master and ʻukulele instructor. He will be assisted by his son Pomaikaʻi<\/span> Loo, a gifted musician who has helped his father teach workshops for the past 12 years.<\/span><\/p>\n
