This year only five finalists were named in the student category, all of them from Honolulu <abbr>CC<\/abbr>. <strong>Linda Inamasu<\/strong> won Pele Gold, <strong>Ryan Kakitani<\/strong>, <strong>Alex Kawamoto<\/strong> and <strong>Jordan Guillermo<\/strong> won silver and <strong>Kara Nyuha<\/strong> won bronze. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I am so incredibly proud of my students. They consistently produce high quality, professional grade work,&rdquo; says <strong>Sandra Sanpei<\/strong>, professor of Honolulu&#8217;s communication arts program. <\/p>\n<h2>The winners <\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_24638\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-24638\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/inamasu-pele.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"285\" class=\"size-full wp-image-24638\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/inamasu-pele.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/inamasu-pele-260x247.jpg 260w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-24638\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Linda Inamasu&#8217;s Pele Gold entry&#8212;Museum Boston coffee table book<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Linda Inamasu<br \/>\nPart-time student, Inamasu came back to school after being laid off in 2010. A 2002 marketing graduate from the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at M&#257;noa, Inamasu tinkered with graphic design software during her marketing career. With the support of her husband and two sons, she came back to school to earn a second degree that would satisfy her interest of graphic design. Her entries &ldquo;Design Museum Boston coffee table book&rdquo; and &ldquo;Colorado Balloon Fest logo&rdquo; both received gold honors. <\/p>\n<p>Ryan Kakitani <br \/>\n&ldquo;The harder you work, the more satisfied you are with the final product,&rdquo; shares Kakitani who will be graduating on May 16. His design &ldquo;Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominee Brochure&rdquo; won him a silver award.<\/p>\n<p>Alex Kawamoto  <br \/>\nAfter graduating from Mililani High School, Kawamoto went to the Art Institute of San Francisco for a year. Homesick, he came back to <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> and enrolled at Honolulu Community College. His design brochure for a famous children&#8217;s museum in Philadelphia called &ldquo;Please Touch&rdquo; won silver honors. <\/p>\n<p>Jordan Guillermo <br \/>\n2011 Kapolei High School graduate, Guillermo  will add Honolulu <abbr>CC<\/abbr> to his list of schools he earned a degree from in a few weeks. His entry &ldquo;California College of the Arts Stationary Package&rdquo; won him a silver Pele.
