The University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Mānoa Distinguished Lecture Series presents noted American environmentalist and writer Bill McKibben<\/a> in a lecture on Thursday, April 24, 6 p.m. in the Art Auditorium. Founder of 350.org<\/a>, the first planet-wide, grassroots climate change movement, McKibben presents “Update from the Front Lines of the Climate Fight.”<\/p>\n

A former staff writer for the New Yorker<\/em>, he writes for a variety of publications worldwide including the New York Review of Books<\/em>, National Geographic<\/em> and Rolling Stone<\/em>. McKibben writes about global warming, alternative energy and the risks associated with human genetic engineering. <\/p>\n

His 1989 book The End of Nature<\/em><\/a> is regarded as the first book for a general audience about climate change and has been published in 24 languages.<\/p>\n

The Schumann Distinguished Scholar in Environmental Studies at Middlebury College<\/a> and fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences<\/a>, McKibben was the 2013 winner of the Gandhi Prize and the Thomas Merton Prize, and holds honorary degrees from 18 colleges and universities. <\/p>\n

Author signing will follow the reading. Books will be made available for purchase.<\/p>\n

This event is free and open to the public and made possible by the Dai Ho Chun Endowment and the College of Languages, Linguistics and Literature<\/a>. <\/p>\n
