He was also a complex, multi-talented, individual who excelled behind-the-scenes as a writer, director, composer, producer and, finally, studio head. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Refocusing-Chaplin-Screen-through-Critical\/dp\/0810892251\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&#038;qid=1397002754&#038;sr=8-1&#038;keywords=refocusing+chaplin\"><em>Refocusing Chaplin: A Screen Icon Through Critical Lenses<\/em><\/a>, a new book co-edited by <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at M&#257;noa<\/a> English Professor <strong>James E. Caron<\/strong>, features essays that help to analyze Chaplin&#8217;s films and shed light on their cultural contexts.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Charlie Chaplin created one of the best-known comic figures ever, the iconic Little Tramp, and 100 years after he made his first films for Keystone Studios, his work continues to delight audiences and intrigue scholars,&rdquo; said Caron. &ldquo;Much of what has been written about Chaplin is biographical in nature, so the significance of the essays in <em>Refocusing Chaplin<\/em> is their departure from that approach, instead employing various critical perspectives to understand the depth of Chaplin&#8217;s creative genius.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><em>Refocusing Chaplin<\/em> was released by Scarecrow Press. Along with Caron, it was co-edited by English Professors Lawrence Howe of Roosevelt University in Illinois and Benjamin Click of St. Mary&#8217;s College in Maryland.<\/p>\n<p>Films discussed in the essays include <em>The Gold Rush<\/em> (1925), <em>City Lights<\/em> (1931), <em>Modern Times<\/em> (1936) and <em>The Great Dictator<\/em> (1940).<\/p>\n<p>According to a December 8, 2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.examiner.com\/review\/new-book-takes-an-intellectual-look-at-charlie-chaplin-s-work\">review<\/a> by James L.
