In its aftermath, she adapted her internship to support disaster relief efforts with World Central Kitchen, which provides meals in emergency response settings worldwide. She supported food distribution efforts for residents across Saipan and nearby islands during the recovery efforts.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>As social workers, we are taught to meet communities where they are.<br \/>&#8212;Amalia Pangelinan<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&ldquo;As social workers, we are taught to meet communities where they are,&rdquo; Pangelinan said. &ldquo;This experience reminded me that social work is not only about providing services&#8212;it is about showing up for your community when people need one another most.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Amalia\u2019s ability to continue moving forward academically while simultaneously supporting disaster relief efforts in her own community reflects the resilience, leadership, and relational accountability that are foundational to social work practice across the Pacific,&rdquo; said Theresa Kreif, director of the Pacific Partnerships and Workforce Development Initiatives. &ldquo;Our students are often balancing family, community, work and cultural responsibilities while pursuing higher education.
