The college was 74 out of 245 schools ranked by <a href=\"http:\/\/grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com\/best-graduate-schools\/top-education-schools\"><em>U.S. News and World Report&#8217;s<\/em><\/a> 2015 edition. For more than a decade, the college has made it into the top 50 to 100 teacher preparation schools category, and continues to rank among the top external funding recipients for research, having been awarded $23.5 million in contracts and grants in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Six of the college&#8217;s programs recently received national and local recognition. Three of the <a href=\"https:\/\/coe.hawaii.edu\/academics\/special-education\">Department of Special Education&#8217;s<\/a> programs received full national recognition from the Council for Exceptional Children. The <a href=\"https:\/\/coe.hawaii.edu\/academics\/institute-teacher-education\/med-teaching\">Master of Education in Teaching<\/a> (<abbr>MEdT<\/abbr>) program earned national recognition from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation for its new multi-subject Secondary Education Initial Licensure\/Post-Baccalaureate program. <abbr>MEdT<\/abbr><abbr>&#8217;s Hawaiian immersion and Hawaiian language programs were approved by the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Teacher Standards Board.<\/abbr><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The College of Education&#8217;s ranking in the top third of all education schools nationally attests to the high quality of our faculty and programs, as well as our success in obtaining external funding that benefits education at all levels,&rdquo; said Dean <strong>Donald B. Young<\/strong>. &ldquo;The college continues to excel in its three major responsibilities of teacher preparation, leadership development and research.
