Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard will be the keynote speaker at <a href=\"http:\/\/windward.hawaii.edu\/whm\/\">Women&#8217;s History Month 2014<\/a> at Windward Community College. The event celebrates the important contributions of women from <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> and around the world. The nationwide theme for this year is &ldquo;Women of Character, Courage and Commitment.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>All events will take place in Hale <span aria-label=\"Akoakoa\">&#699;&#256;koakoa 105 and are FREE and open to the public. Everyone is invited to participate in discussions with the speakers.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>March Women&#8217;s History Month Events<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard<\/strong>&#8212;Monday, March 17, 3&#8211;4 p.m.<em>(schedule is subject to change)<\/em>\n<p>Representing <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>&#8217;s 2nd Congressional District, Tulsi Gabbard is one of the first two female combat veterans, first Hindu and first female of Samoan ancestry to ever serve as a member of the <abbr>U.S<\/abbr>. Congress. The topics Congresswoman Gabbard will discuss include issues facing women in the military, her journey to Washington and some of the lessons learned from her time in office.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Voices from the Inside<\/strong>&#8212;Tuesday, March 18, 10&#8211;11 a.m.\n<p>Inmates at the <a href=\"http:\/\/dps.hawaii.gov\/about\/divisions\/corrections\/prisons\/wccc\/\">Women&#8217;s Community Correctional Center<\/a> will discuss how they have discovered forgiveness and healing through creative programs like <a href=\"http:\/\/voicesfrominside.org\/\">Voices from the Inside,<\/a> where they find hope through writing, poetry and performance.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=LlzWtlLTIao\"><strong>VIDEO<\/strong>: Living Local TV report on the Prison Monologues<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>The Glades Project<\/em> with filmmaker Connie M. Florez<\/strong>&#8212;Thursday, March 20, 11:30 a.m.&#8211;12:30 p.m.\n<p>How do transgender individuals view womanhood and identity? Director\/producer of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hulagirlproductions.com\/#!glades\/c1jcc\"><em>The Glades Project<\/em><\/a>, Connie Florez will discuss her feature documentary film about an integral part of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>&#8217;s culture and history that has been kept in the dark until now.
