During the 2024-2025 academic year, the University of <span lang=\"haw\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> awarded 2,086 degrees and certificates to Native Hawaiians. As of fall 2025, there are 12,618 Native Hawaiians enrolled.<\/p>\n<p>There are so many accomplishments by students, faculty, staff, and administrators, to programs, community outreach, and engagement to highlight. Here are a few:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hear <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0xthV3zKZ7I\">personal testimonies on YouTube<\/a> from Native Hawaiian community college students fulfilling their kuleana: Cathryn Krueger, <span lang=\"haw\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr>; Kamananui Anderson, Honolulu <abbr>CC<\/abbr>; Melanie Camat, <span lang=\"haw\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr>; <span lang=\"haw\">Hi&#699;ilani<\/span> Cremer, <span lang=\"haw\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr>; Stevie Puna, Leeward <abbr>CC<\/abbr>; <span lang=\"haw\">&#699;Ale&#699;a<\/span> Kimokeo, <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> Maui College; Kauakaweli Haili-Nakamoto, Windward <abbr>CC<\/abbr>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2025\/05\/06\/harman-ka-wai-ola-may-2025\/\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo honored Mary Kawena Pukui<\/a> with a panel that coincided with Women\u2019s History Month and her posthumous selection as a 2025 honoree for the U.S. Mint\u2019s Native American <abbr title=\"One dollar \">$1<\/abbr> coin.<\/li>\n<li>The Hawaiian collection at the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo Edwin H. <span lang=\"haw\">Mo&#699;okini<\/span> Library was named the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2025\/07\/22\/edith-kanakaole-library-collection\/\">Edith <span lang=\"haw\">Kanaka&#699;ole<\/span> Hawaiian Collection<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2025\/06\/16\/restoring-pono-restoring-community-uh-west-oahu\/\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> West <span lang=\"haw\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> hosted a two-day <span lang=\"haw\">&#699;Aha<\/span> <span lang=\"haw\">Ho&#699;oponopono<\/span><\/a> with 300 haku <span lang=\"haw\">ho&#699;oponopono<\/span>, social sector professionals, aloha <span lang=\"haw\">&#699;\u0101ina<\/span> practitioners, and community members.<\/li>\n<li><abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s Hawaiian Theatre program celebrated its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2025\/03\/31\/uh-hawaiian-language-production-global-stage\/\">10th anniversary with its latest Hawaiian language production <em>Puana<\/em><\/a>, and an invitation to perform at the Kia Mau international Indigenous-led performing arts festival in Aotearoa.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2025\/02\/20\/windward-cc-hawaiian-studies-arizona-prison\/\">Windward <abbr>CC<\/abbr> extended its Hawaiian studies program<\/a> to <span lang=\"haw\">pa&#699;ahao<\/span> incarcerated at the Saguaro Correctional Center in Arizona, with 25 students enrolled in their first course.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2025\/06\/24\/na-hoku-award-lahaina-tribute-album\/\"><em><span lang=\"haw\">Ha&#699;ina<\/span> Ko Wehi: Celebrating West Maui in Mele<\/em><\/a> a project by students from <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Maui College\u2019s Institute of Hawaiian Music was named Compilation Album of the Year at the 2025 N\u0101 H\u014dk\u016b Hanohano Awards.<\/li>\n<li>Honolulu Community College hosted a two-day Indigenous education symposium <span lang=\"haw\">&#699;Aha<\/span> K\u016bkalahale 2025, uplifting Hawaiian knowledge funded by the K\u016bkalahale Title <abbr title=\"Three\">III<\/abbr> Grant and in partnership with Kanaeokana and Pacific Rim Concepts.<\/li>\n<li><abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa Native Hawaiian Student Services\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2025\/05\/27\/kalakaua-and-hawaiian-kingdoms-legacy-in-japan\/\">Hawaiian Youths Abroad<\/a> program Japan took a cohort of 13 students and 6 faculty\/staff to explore Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, while retracing connections between the Hawaiian Kingdom and Japan.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2025\/07\/01\/kuiokalani-gapero-appointed-bor\/\">Kuiokalani L. Gapero<\/a> succeeded Ernie <span lang=\"haw\">Ka&#699;aumoana<\/span> Wilson <abbr title=\"junior\">Jr.<\/abbr> to the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Board of Regents for a 5-year term.<\/li>\n<li>Winners of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2025\/05\/18\/bor-excellence-in-teaching-2025\/\">Board of Regents Medal for Excellence in Teaching<\/a> included: Mapuana Antonio (public health associate professor, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa); Ashlee Kalauli (math instructor, <span lang=\"haw\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr>); Tracie <span lang=\"haw\">Ku&#699;uipo<\/span> Losch (Hawaiian studies professor, Leeward <abbr>CC<\/abbr>); Mehana <span lang=\"haw\">Ka&#699;iama<\/span> <span lang=\"haw\">Maka&#699;ina&#699;i<\/span> (Hawaiian studies instructor, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa); Peter <span lang=\"haw\">Kalawai&#699;a<\/span> Moore (Hawaiian studies professor, Windward <abbr>CC<\/abbr>); and Jamaica Heolimeleikalani Osorio (political science associate professor, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa).<\/li>\n<li>Kenny <span lang=\"haw\">Ka&#699;aiakamanu<\/span>-Quibilan received the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2025\/04\/22\/2025-manoa-awards\/\">P\u0101kela Award<\/a> for being an outstanding academic advisor.<\/li>\n<li>Shayla Spotkaeff, a business management major and undergraduate research assistant at the Center for Oral History received the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa Student Employee of the Year Award.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2025\/11\/24\/native-hawaiian-law-center\/\">Ka Huli Ao Center for Excellence in Native Hawaiian Law<\/a> at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa William S.
