Daniel Erman<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Mānoa Department of Mathematics<\/a> faculty member Daniel Erman has been named a 2026 Fellow of the American Mathematical Society<\/a> (AMS<\/abbr>), one of the highest honors in the field. The AMS<\/abbr> Fellows program recognizes members who have made outstanding contributions to the creation, advancement and communication of mathematics.<\/p>\n

Erman\u2019s work often connects abstract mathematical theory with computational and algorithmic applications, and his research helps build the mathematical foundations behind many modern technologies, from computer graphics to data analysis. Erman was recognized by AMS<\/abbr> for his influential research in commutative algebra and algebraic geometry, areas that explore the deep structures underlying polynomial equations and geometric shapes.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m incredibly honored to be recognized by the AMS<\/abbr>,” Erman said. “I have benefited so much from the community cultivated by the AMS<\/abbr>, and I have been especially fortunate to have had amazing mentors, collaborators and students over the years. Mathematics is a deeply collaborative discipline, and it is especially humbling to be honored by the AMS<\/abbr>, which is such an important part of the mathematics community.”<\/p>\n

The Fellows of the AMS<\/abbr> program was established to recognize excellence and to support leadership within the mathematics community. Each year, new fellows are selected from a competitive pool representing less than half of one percent of the society\u2019s membership. Fellows are chosen not only for their research achievements but also for their service to the profession and dedication to communicating mathematics to broader audiences.<\/p>\n

Erman joins his colleague Aloysisus Helminck and emeritus colleague Edward Bertram as AMS<\/abbr> fellows, continuing UH<\/abbr> Mānoa\u2019s legacy of excellence in mathematical research and education.<\/p>\n
