The mobilization successfully served 1,100 households, exceeding the initial goal of 1,000 households.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/leeward-foodbank-2025-3-214x300.jpg\" alt=\"Volunteer with boxes\" width=\"214\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-225206\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/leeward-foodbank-2025-3-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/leeward-foodbank-2025-3-93x130.jpg 93w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/leeward-foodbank-2025-3.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 214px) 100vw, 214px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The event highlighted Leeward <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr>&#8216;s role as a key regional institution, bringing together staff, students and leaders, including <span lang=\"haw\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Lt. Gov. Sylvia Luke, who all worked to ensure efficient distribution.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This is our kuleana (responsibility) in action,&rdquo; said Chancellor Carlos Pe\u00f1aloza. &ldquo;The mission of a community college is to be responsive to the immediate needs of its people. We are not just in the community; we are the community. Opening our campus as a point of distribution and seeing our staff, students and leaders like the lieutenant governor working side-by-side is the most powerful lesson we can offer. Will Castillo, senior coordinator for Leeward <abbr>CC<\/abbr>\u2019s Office of Workforce Development, volunteered at the event alongside his daughter and reflected on the significance of their collective action.<\/p>\n<p>Castillo said, &ldquo;This is what Leeward is all about, coming together to uplift and support our community when it matters most.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Volunteer Emma Collo, a Miss Chinatown princess, added, &ldquo;Seeing the gratitude on families&#8217; faces reminded us why this work matters, and we encourage everyone to consider volunteering.
