Blanchard<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Robert J. Blanchard<\/strong>, a professor in the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at M&#257;noa <a href=\"http:\/\/www.psychology.hawaii.edu\/\">Department of Psychology<\/a> known for his research in behavioral neuroscience, passed away November 2013.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Bob was an eminent scholar in behavioral neuroscience specifically in the areas of aggression and defensive behavior as well as providing foundational research on Alzheimer&#8217;s disease,&rdquo; said longtime colleague, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo Professor <strong>Gary R. Ten Eyck<\/strong>. &ldquo;Bob was an outstanding mentor and colleague that served on numerous university, national and international committees and other organizational activities.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>News@Â鶹´«Ã½article<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/ur\/newsatuh\/archives\/030210\/blanchard.htm\">&ldquo;M&#257;noa Couple&#8217;s Work on Neurobiology of Emotion Could Lead to Improved Therapies&rdquo;<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Blanchard is credited with contributing to more than 40 books in his field and writing six of his own including <em>The Handbook of Anxiety<\/em> and <em>The Biopsychology of Fear and Defense,<\/em> along with dozens of journal articles. <\/p>\n<p>Blanchard was born in Watertown, <abbr>MA<\/abbr> and received his bachelor&#8217;s degree from Boston University, earned his master&#8217;s and PhD from the University of Iowa and served in the United States Army before coming to <abbr>UH<\/abbr> in 1964. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The university remembers <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa Professor Robert J.
