A new Veterans Affairs (VA<\/abbr>) Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC<\/abbr>) will be built on the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Maui College campus, providing expanded health services for Maui\u2019s veterans while creating hands-on training opportunities for UH<\/abbr> students.<\/p>\n

The new Maui CBOC<\/abbr> will provide primary care, women\u2019s health, mental health, audiology, pharmacy, laboratory, cardiology, pulmonology and other specialty services. It is designed to significantly enhance the VA<\/abbr>\u2019s service capacity for central and east Maui, while also strengthening telehealth access to Molokaʻi,<\/span> Lānaʻi<\/span> and other remote communities.<\/p>\n

“This partnership represents a win-win for our veterans, our students and the Maui community,” said UH<\/abbr> Maui College Chancellor Lui Hokoana.<\/p>\n

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Pacific Islands Health Care System (VAPIHCS<\/abbr>) announced the land lease agreement with UH<\/abbr><\/a> for a two-acre parcel at UH<\/abbr> Maui College in August. The project marks a milestone collaboration that integrates education and health care.<\/p>\n

“This agreement signifies much more than land use\u2014it\u2019s a mutual commitment to the healing, education, and wellness of our veteran community on Maui. By leveraging UH<\/abbr>\u2019s academic excellence alongside the VA<\/abbr>\u2019s clinical mission, we are building a transformative environment,” said VAPIHCS<\/abbr> Interim Medical Center Director Thandiwe Nelson-Brooks.<\/p>\n

Maui\u2019s current clinic, located in Kahului, has served veterans since 2017 but has outgrown its space. As the island\u2019s veteran population and care needs expand, the new facility will deliver larger, modernized clinical areas and integrated services.<\/p>\n

VAPIHCS<\/abbr> currently provides nearly 360,000 outpatient visits each year across the Pacific Islands. The new clinic at UH<\/abbr> Maui College will help meet that growing demand while creating new opportunities for UH<\/abbr> students pursuing careers in health care. The next step for the facility is the design phase, which VA<\/abbr> officials say will take into account the campus setting and architecture.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
