CTAHR<\/abbr> CARES<\/abbr> staff took state House members on a tour of the upcountry station.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Strengthening the vital partnership between the Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> State Legislature and the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>, the House Higher Education Committee visited UH<\/abbr> Maui College and UH<\/abbr> Kauaʻi<\/span> Community College, and toured the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resilience<\/a>\u2019s (CTAHR<\/abbr>) Agricultural Research and Extension Stations (CARES<\/abbr>).<\/p>\n

Legislators with the committee and House Representatives from Maui and Kauaʻi<\/span> were able to gain a deeper understanding of the institutions\u2019 critical work through their visit.<\/p>\n

Wailua gets more than 80 inches of rain a year, creating a sea of green grass, tall trees, and foliage for the tour of CTAHR<\/abbr>\u2019s station.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

On Maui, the legislators learned about 4-H and Master Gardener programs and explored the 25-acre CARES<\/abbr> facility in Kula. The protea field plots and seed production in greenhouses showcased the CTAHR<\/abbr>\u2019s innovative agricultural research and its commitment to diversifying the state\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n

Next, the legislators visited part of the 201-acre UH<\/abbr> Kauaʻi<\/span> CARES<\/abbr> Center in Wailua, illustrating the breadth of CTAHR<\/abbr>\u2019s research with Pacific crops, organic crops, livestock production and community engagement.<\/p>\n

The Higher Education Committee members will continue visiting other UH<\/abbr> campuses over the next few months. These visits highlight the pivotal role of UH<\/abbr> in addressing local challenges, driving innovation, and preparing students for successful futures.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
