The free event, &ldquo;Pacific Rising: How California and <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Can Lead the Clean Energy Revolution,&rdquo; will feature David Hochschild, chair of the California Energy Commission and is set for Thursday, August 7, at 6:30 p.m., in the Bishop Ballroom at <abbr>AC<\/abbr> Hotel Honolulu.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_219247\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-219247\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/manoa-btss-hochschild-d-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Hochschild speaking\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-219247\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/manoa-btss-hochschild-d-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/manoa-btss-hochschild-d-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/manoa-btss-hochschild-d.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-219247\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">David Hochschild<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/speakers\/david-hochschild\/\">Register now<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&ldquo;We are so pleased to welcome David Hochschild to <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span>. <abbr>UH<\/abbr> is deeply involved in climate and energy research, from alternative fuels to grid integration to storage, and we look forward to strengthening our partnerships with institutions in California,&rdquo; said Chip Fletcher, dean of <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.soest.hawaii.edu\/soestwp\/\">School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Two states, one goal<\/h2>\n<p>As federal support for clean energy initiatives faces uncertainty under the current administration, state leadership has become increasingly vital. <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> made history as the first state to set a 100% renewable energy target, while California is now making unprecedented investments toward achieving the same goal.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We look forward to discussing with Chair Hochschild how our states can work together to sustain the clean energy revolution, even as the feds shift into reverse,&rdquo; said Chris Benjamin, chair and co-founder of Climate <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>, a co-sponsor of the event. <\/p>\n<h2>Energy expertise<\/h2>\n<p>Hochschild leads the California Energy Commission, an $8.5 billion agency responsible for energy planning and policy in the world&#8217;s fourth-largest economy. With more than 20 years of experience in energy transformation, he brings extensive expertise to the clean energy transition. <\/p>\n<p>His leadership has earned numerous accolades, including the Sierra Club&#8217;s Trailblazer Award, the American Lung Association&#8217;s Clean Air Hero Award, and the U.S. Department of Energy&#8217;s Million Solar Roof True Champion Award.
