The training is a collaboration of academic institutions, and <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr>\u2019s role includes workforce development, hands-on training and research presentations.<\/p>\n<p>The Blue Economy project includes areas such as marine resource management, renewable energy, sustainable fisheries, aquaculture and maritime transportation. <abbr>AI<\/abbr> tools will help researchers analyze ocean and coastal data, model predictions and make data-driven decisions to support sustainability and economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;By leveraging national <abbr>AI<\/abbr> resources and engaging coastal communities, we\u2019re not only strengthening <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>\u2019s role in the Blue Economy&#8212;we\u2019re building a skilled, resilient workforce prepared to tackle the environmental and economic challenges of tomorrow,&rdquo; said Sean Cleveland, acting director of research cyberinfrastructure for Âé¶¹´«Ã½Information Technology Services.<\/p>\n<h2>Practical <abbr>AI<\/abbr> training<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_219031\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-219031\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/system-ai-blue-econ-2-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"People sitting at a conference\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-219031\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/system-ai-blue-econ-2-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/system-ai-blue-econ-2-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/system-ai-blue-econ-2.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-219031\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Workshop hosted at <abbr>UH<\/abbr>\u00a0 <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Data Science Institute<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Participants will receive practical <abbr>AI<\/abbr> training using <abbr>NSF<\/abbr>-funded computing systems: <a href=\"https:\/\/jetstream-cloud.org\/\">Jetstream2<\/a> at Indiana University (<abbr>IU<\/abbr>) and Texas <abbr>A<\/abbr>&#38;<abbr>M<\/abbr>\u2019s Accelerated Computing for Emerging Sciences.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The Blue Economy is a great example of a project enhanced through use of multiple <abbr>NSF<\/abbr>-funded resources,&rdquo; said David Y. Hancock, <abbr>IU<\/abbr> director for advanced cyberinfrastructure and Jetstream2 principal investigator. &ldquo;The fundamental mission of Jetstream2 has been to accelerate use of <abbr>AI<\/abbr> technologies and on-demand cloud resources in the lab as well as the classroom.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Students and faculty can expect targeted lectures, paper presentations and in-person workshops featuring hands-on training and panel discussions.
