The institutions will lead a national project entitled, Student Learning for Civic Capacity: Stimulating Moral, Ethical and Civic Engagement for Learning that Lasts. Four <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> faculty will play national leadership roles&#8212;Director of Office for Institutional Effectiveness <strong>Robert Franco<\/strong> is the project director, Professor <strong>Tanya Renner<\/strong> is the project evaluator, Associate Professor <strong>Krista Hiser<\/strong> is the project technology lead, and Assistant Professor <strong>Francisco Acoba<\/strong> will lead project learning assessment efforts.<\/p>\n<p>In collaboration with six other community colleges&#8212;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.deanza.edu\/\">De Anza<\/a> in California, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dcc.edu\/\">Delgado<\/a> in Louisiana, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kbcc.cuny.edu\/\">Kingsborough<\/a> in New York, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mesacc.edu\/\">Mesa<\/a> in Arizona, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.qcc.cuny.edu\/\">Queensborough<\/a> in New York and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.raritanval.edu\/\">Raritan Valley<\/a> in New Jersey&#8212;the project will develop 70 courses in the humanities and other fields that: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>build students&#8217; current and future commitment to civic and moral responsibility; <\/li>\n<li>develop strategies for students&#8217; continual building of this commitment across curricular and co-curricular programs to degrees and transfer; <\/li>\n<li>develop, review and refine a qualitative rubric-based assessment methodology for campus use and national dissemination; <\/li>\n<li>develop, review, implement and refine a quantitative pre- and post-test methodology for campus use and national dissemination; <\/li>\n<li>create communities of faculty, staff, students and administrators on each of the seven campuses to build program and institutional commitment to civic and moral responsibility; <\/li>\n<li>engage in campus, statewide and national dialogues on curricular and pedagogical reform promoting civic and moral responsibility; <\/li>\n<li>leverage additional resources from campus, state, federal and foundation sources.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> faculty will integrate the following &ldquo;big question&rdquo; into service-learning and sustainability designated courses&#8212;&ldquo;How do we build our commitment to civic and moral responsibility for diverse, equitable, healthy and sustainable communities?&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>A new <em>Service and Sustainability Learning Reflection Journal<\/em> has been developed to continuously engage students in addressing the &ldquo;big question&rdquo; over one and multiple semesters.<\/p>\n<p><span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> Community College will provide state, regional and national leadership in preparing students to be engaged citizens and scholars building a healthier and more sustainable <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> for the rest of the world.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;<em>A <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> Community College news release<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr> faculty to lead national project to stimulate moral, ethical and civic engagement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":16,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[30],"tags":[63],"class_list":["post-21893","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-research","tag-kapiolani-community-college","entry","has-media"],"aioseo_notices":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/21893","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/16"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=21893"}],"version-history":[{"count":7,"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/21893\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":151547,"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/21893\/revisions\/151547"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=21893"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=21893"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=21893"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
