Gapero, an educator, mentor and cultural practitioner, has been appointed to the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Board of Regents by <abbr title=\"governor\">Gov.<\/abbr> Josh Green. Gapero officially began serving his five year term on July 1, 2025, filling the seat that was held by Ernest Wilson.<\/p>\n<p>Gapero teaches at Kamehameha Schools Maui, where he specializes in <span aria-label=\"Ike\">&#699;Ike<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> (Hawaiian Knowledge Systems). His work focuses on place-based and project-based learning, integrating Hawaiian language, culture and environmental stewardship into education. He has extensive experience in curriculum development, experiential learning and mentorship, ensuring students gain practical skills while deepening their understanding of Hawaiian culture and history.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I\u2019m a lifelong learner and teacher, so I understand how important education is and the difference it can make at any age,&rdquo; said Gapero. &ldquo;I\u2019m honored to serve as a regent, and it\u2019s a responsibility I take to heart and approach with real dedication.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Gapero previously served as an <span aria-label=\"Olelo\">&#699;\u014clelo<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> (Hawaiian Language) lecturer at <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> Maui College and performed &ldquo;Song of Kaup\u014d&rdquo; on the 2016 N\u0101 H\u014dk\u016b Hanohano Compilation Album of the Year, &ldquo;Aloha <span aria-label=\"Ia\">&#699;Ia<\/span> N\u014d <span aria-label=\"O\">&#699;O<\/span> Maui&ldquo; produced by the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Maui College Institute of Hawaiian Music.
