They joined a 10-member <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> delegation, including representatives from the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> State Department of Health and local k\u016bpuna-serving organizations.<\/p>\n<p>The conference brought together experts from more than 40 countries to share knowledge on dementia-friendly communities, digital inclusion, migration and care work, and intergenerational relationships.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_216752\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-216752\" style=\"width: 214px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/manoa-public-health-hayashida-acap-214x300.jpg\" alt=\"Cullen Hayashida talking\" width=\"214\" height=\"300\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-216752\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/manoa-public-health-hayashida-acap-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/manoa-public-health-hayashida-acap-93x130.jpg 93w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/manoa-public-health-hayashida-acap.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 214px) 100vw, 214px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-216752\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cullen Hayashida<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Braun, professor of public health at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa and current <abbr>ACAP<\/abbr> president, is the principal investigator of the federally-funded <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/hakupuna\/\">H\u0101 K\u016bpuna National Resource Center for Native Hawaiian Elders<\/a> in the <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/thompson\/\">Thompson School of Social Work &#38; Public Health<\/a>. She highlighted <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>\u2019s rapidly aging population and the value of learning from other countries\u2019 experiences.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;<span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> is one of the most rapidly aging states in the nation, but not as fast as Japan and several other Asian countries,&rdquo; said Braun. &ldquo;These gatherings help us adapt successful models to meet <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>\u2019s unique needs.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Hayashida, graduate affiliate faculty in <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/sociology.manoa.hawaii.edu\/\">Department of Sociology<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/nursing.hawaii.edu\">School of Nursing<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/aging\/\">Center on Aging<\/a>, is the founding director of the K\u016bpuna Education Center at <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> Community College. He described <abbr>ACAP<\/abbr> as a vital network of researchers, educators, healthcare professionals, and advocates committed to active aging.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Active retirees should pivot from just being youthful to becoming useful contributors,&rdquo; he said.<\/p>\n<p><abbr>ACAP<\/abbr> welcomes members of all ages and backgrounds to participate in monthly webinars and international knowledge exchange.
