Nelson, dean of the <a href=\"http:\/\/law.hawaii.edu\">William S. Richardson School of Law<\/a> at the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa, has been named the 2025 Outstanding Woman Lawyer by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaiiwomenlawyers.org\/annual-awards.html\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Women Lawyers<\/a> (<abbr>HWL<\/abbr>). This award recognizes individuals who have contributed to advancing women in the legal profession and promoting equal opportunity. Mahalo nui loa to <abbr>HWL<\/abbr> and to my incredible colleagues and students at Richardson Law who inspire me every day.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<h2>Service, leadership, innovation<\/h2>\n<p>Nelson, who has led <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>\u2019s Law School since 2020, is recognized for her service, leadership and innovation. A nationally respected legal scholar and administrator, she has served as dean at three law schools&#8212;breaking barriers as the first woman and first person of color in each of those roles&#8212;and has mentored generations of students, scholars and legal professionals throughout her distinguished career.<\/p>\n<p>In January 2025, Nelson was also awarded the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2025\/01\/06\/camille-nelson-award\/\">2025 Deborah L. Rhode Award<\/a> from the American Association of Law Schools. This award recognizes individuals who advance leadership, professional responsibility, pro bono service and gender equality in law.<\/p>\n<p>Since joining the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> law school, Nelson has launched several initiatives to expand access and empower students. These include the Island Leadership Lab, Business Bootcamp, and Innovator in Residence program, aimed at enhancing leadership skills, financial literacy, and legal technology. She also helped establish the <a href=\"https:\/\/law.hawaii.edu\/academics\/jd-juris-doctor-program\/onlinejd\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Online <abbr title=\"Juris Doctor Degree\">JD<\/abbr> Program<\/a> to improve access to legal education for students on neighbor islands and in the Pacific region.<\/p>\n<p>Under her leadership, Richardson Law earned the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2024\/05\/16\/law-diversity-award\/\">2024 American Bar Association Diversity Leadership Award<\/a> and has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2025\/04\/08\/us-news-best-grad-programs-2025\/\">ranked among the top 100 law schools in the nation<\/a>.
