On April 9, the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>\u2019s Giving Day<\/a> once again demonstrated the power of collective generosity, with donors across the state and beyond rallying together to support students, faculty and programs across the 10-campus UH<\/abbr> System. Many also weathered the rain to wave signs and loudly cheer<\/a> on the lawn fronting UH<\/abbr>\u2019s Bachman Hall in M\u0101noa.<\/p>\n

The 24-hour fundraising event inspired an overwhelming response and raised more than $800,000 from more than 1,800 gifts, representing a 36% increase over last year\u2019s gift amount of $593,000. These generous gifts reflect a deep appreciation for the rich diversity and expansive reach of UH<\/abbr> System\u2019s academic, research and extracurricular programs.<\/p>\n

From competitive athletics and pioneering oceanography research to the dedicated Graduate Student Fund and the vibrant Windward Community College Performing Arts program, these contributions affirm the vital role that all disciplines and campuses play in advancing knowledge, fostering creativity and building stronger communities across our islands.<\/p>\n

“This success highlights the vital role of philanthropy in helping us continue our mission of educational excellence,” said UH<\/abbr> President Wendy Hensel. “Our students and faculty are at the heart of everything we do, and their success is made possible through the unwavering support of our community.”<\/p>\n

In addition to monetary contributions, Giving Day also saw increased participation from UH<\/abbr> alumni, with many sharing stories of how their UH<\/abbr> experiences shaped their careers and lives. The day was filled with a sense of community, pride and a shared commitment to the university\u2019s future.<\/p>\n

“I believe this tremendous outpouring of support reflects our community\u2019s deep recognition of the essential role the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> plays in developing the programs and research that are most critical to our state\u2019s future,” said Tim Dolan, UH<\/abbr> Foundation CEO<\/abbr> and UH<\/abbr> vice president of advancement. “Some of our partners are already asking about next year\u2019s Giving Day.”<\/p>\n
