More than 700 students, educators and industry professionals gathered at Kapiʻolani<\/span> Community College for four days of networking, industry discussions and hands-on activities during Expand Your Horizon: Career Day in February.<\/p>\n

The event connected students with career pathways, industry leaders and educational opportunities.<\/p>\n

“At Kapiʻolani<\/span> Community College, we recognize that workforce preparation is essential for all students, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in an ever-evolving job market,” said Kapiʻolani<\/span> CC<\/abbr> Chancellor Misaki Takabayashi.<\/p>\n

Representatives from companies such as Hawaiian Airlines, Foodland Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> and Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Pacific Health shared insights into industry expectations and in-demand skills. Among them were Kapiʻolani<\/span> CC<\/abbr> alumni.<\/p>\n

“During my time at Kapiʻolani<\/span> CC<\/abbr>, the Hospitality and Tourism Program provided practical learning opportunities and connected me with industry experts,” said Embassy Suites by Hilton Engineer Coordinator Tyler Castro. “Returning to campus to share my journey as an alumnus and a professional in the field is immensely rewarding.”<\/p>\n

Students explored career paths in fields such as hospitality, business and information technology.<\/p>\n

“It was inspiring to see students connecting with employers, gaining insights and exploring career opportunities,” said Laure Burke, interim dean of business, legal, technology, culinary, and hospitality and tourism. “We hope to continue events like these to support students in building a network and preparing for their careers.”<\/p>\n

High school students discover careers<\/h2>\n

Kapiʻolani<\/span> CC<\/abbr> also welcomed more than 400 Oʻahu<\/span> high school students and educators for a career exploration day—touring the campus, exploring academic programs and discovering career possibilities.<\/p>\n

“It was inspiring to see the opportunities at Kapiʻolani<\/span> CC<\/abbr>, and I plan on becoming an engineer,” said Koamalu Igawa, a student at \u0100nuenue High School.<\/p>\n

“It all starts with self-discovery,” said Kapiʻolani<\/span> CC<\/abbr> Outreach Coordinator Sheldon Tawata. “By introducing high school students to the many opportunities at Kapiʻolani<\/span> CC<\/abbr>, we bring awareness to the connection between higher education, careers and their future aspirations.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
