University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> President Wendy Hensel wrapped up her visit to Kauaʻi<\/span> Community College on March 5, with a reception at Kilohana Plantation, where she was warmly welcomed by more than 50 alumni, donors, UH<\/abbr> faculty and community members. The event, hosted by the UH<\/abbr> Foundation, offered an opportunity for locals to strengthen their connection with the new president and reflect on the university’s deep ties to the island.<\/p>\n

Kauaʻi<\/span> CC<\/abbr> graduate Kalei Carvalho, who is an academic counselor for Native Hawaiian students at the campus, captured the spirit of the evening:<\/p>\n

“As a proud alumnus of three UH<\/abbr> campuses, including Kauaʻi<\/span> Community College, it was inspiring to witness the strong support for our campus and be surrounded by attendees whose dedication and collaboration make the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> such a special community,” said Carvalho, who also holds degrees from UH<\/abbr> West Oʻahu<\/span> and UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa.<\/p>\n

Hensel expressed her gratitude to the attendees, noting the powerful stories shared by alumni and community members about how the university has shaped their lives.<\/p>\n

“What I\u2019ve heard today is people love their school,” she said. “That\u2019s something you can\u2019t make up, and it\u2019s something you can\u2019t replace.”<\/p>\n

The event also featured remarks from UH<\/abbr> Regent Laurel Loo and Kauaʻi<\/span> CC<\/abbr> Chancellor Margaret Sanchez.<\/p>\n

“[President Hensel] has been an extremely strong UH<\/abbr> leader who has sought collaboration and community in making the tough decisions that she\u2019s had to make so far,” Sanchez said.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on the enduring impact of UH<\/abbr> on the island, Hensel pledged her continued support.<\/p>\n

“It means so much that you\u2019re here to support me as I begin, and please know that I will be back here fighting the fights as we go forward,” she said.<\/p>\n
