Kamakau, K&#363;lani&#257;kea, and Ke Kula Kaiapuni <span aria-label=\"o\">&#699;o<\/span> P&#363;\u2018&#333;hala.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Windward <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr> is so thankful to be part of this event, which reinforces the love of language and culture for our <span aria-label=\"opio\">&#699;&#333;pio<\/span> (youth) and kai&#257;ulu (community),&rdquo; said Chancellor Ardis Eschenberg.<\/p>\n<p>N&#257; Leo Hiehie o ke <span aria-label=\"Koolau,\">Ko&#699;olau,<\/span> was organized in partnership with Kanaeokana (a network dedicated to supporting <span aria-label=\"olelo\">&#699;&#333;lelo<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Hawaii,\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½,<\/span> Hawaiian culture and <span aria-label=\"ainabased\">&#699;&#257;ina-based<\/span> education) and <span aria-label=\"Ahahui\">&#699;Ahahui<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Olelo\">&#699;&#332;lelo<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> (an organization that advocates for the Hawaiian language).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_211447\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-211447\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/windward-olelo-competition-1-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Judges sitting at a table\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-211447\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/windward-olelo-competition-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/windward-olelo-competition-1-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/windward-olelo-competition-1.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-211447\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Division 3 judges Miki Kalaniopio Cook, Kapela Wong, Kahanuola Tabor<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&ldquo;Ola ka <span aria-label=\"olelo\">&#699;&#333;lelo<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> makamae i ka leo o n&#257; <span aria-label=\"kamalii\">kamali&#699;i!<\/span> Our precious Hawaiian language lives in the voices of the children!&rdquo; said Ekela Kaniaupio-Crozier, president of <span aria-label=\"Ahahui\">&#699;Ahahui<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Olelo\">&#699;&#332;lelo<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Hawaii.\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Kanaeokana\u2019s Manuwai Peters added, &ldquo;N&#257; Leo Hiehie o ke <span aria-label=\"Koolau\">Ko&#699;olau<\/span> provides students a competitive platform to showcase excellence in Hawaiian language while inspiring their peers. Seeing their families and teachers cheer them on is incredible. Winners were honored at the Ola Ka <span aria-label=\"I\">&#699;&#298;<\/span> Hawaiian Language Celebration at Windward Mall.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I am so honored to have an amazing team that provides a platform for haum&#257;na to showcase their passion and skills for <span aria-label=\"Olelo\">&#699;&#332;lelo<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Hawaii.\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½.<\/span> We look forward to sustaining and growing this event for years to come,&rdquo; said <span aria-label=\"Kaimionalani\">Ka&#699;imionalani<\/span> Gample, Windward <abbr>CC<\/abbr> Early College counselor.<\/p>\n<p>M&#257;hiehie Garrett, <span aria-label=\"Hawaiiloa\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½loa<\/span> program coordinator, added, &ldquo;When m&#257;kua (parents) and keiki (children) speak together in the language of our k&#363;puna (elders), you feel it.
