  {"id":2114,"date":"2011-11-18T10:57:28","date_gmt":"2011-11-18T20:57:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/?p=2114"},"modified":"2021-06-02T13:43:17","modified_gmt":"2021-06-02T23:43:17","slug":"homeless-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2011\/11\/18\/homeless-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Homeless services report by Center on the Family"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> 2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/homeless-report.jpg\" alt=\"Homeless Service Utilization Report cover\" width=\"200\" height=\"259\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-2244\" \/><\/p>\n<p>University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at M&#257;noa&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/uhfamily.hawaii.edu\/\">Center on the Family<\/a> and the Homeless Programs Office of the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> State <a href=\"http:\/\/hawaii.gov\/dhs\">Department of Human Services<\/a> released the <em>Homeless Service Utilization Report: <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> 2011<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Authored by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ctahr.hawaii.edu\/site\/\">College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources<\/a> Assistant Specialist <strong>Sarah Yuan<\/strong> and Junior Specialist <strong>Ivette Rodriguez Stern<\/strong>, the report provides state- and county-level data about the individuals and households who accessed homeless support services during the 2011 fiscal year.<\/p>\n<p>The report includes information for both the Shelter Stipend Program (i.e., emergency and transitional shelter services) and Outreach Program (i.e., services to those living in a car or park or on a beach).<\/p>\n<h2>Report highlights<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>From July 1, 2010, to June 30, 2011, the Shelter and Outreach Programs served a total of 14,200 individuals statewide, a slight decrease of 3 percent from a year ago.<\/li>\n<li>About a quarter (23 percent) of the homeless service users were children under the age of 18.<\/li>\n<li>Among the 10,940 adult clients, 20 percent reported having a disabling condition; 12 percent were considered long-term homeless and 9 percent considered chronically homeless.<\/li>\n<li>The Shelter Program served 8,299 homeless individuals and the Outreach Program served 8,266 homeless individuals in fiscal year 2011.
