UHMC<\/abbr> students from last spring’s Innovation Day show off their projects.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Innovations in science and technology will be showcased on November 22 at University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Maui College’s Career and Innovation Day. The public is invited to this event featuring innovative projects in science and technology such as a biosphere (a self-sustaining space habitat), a smartboard application that can transform any surface into an interactive display, a banana piano that uses bananas as keystrokes and more.<\/p>\n

The event will feature cutting-edge projects organized by students in the UH<\/abbr> Maui College Science Technology Engineering Mathematics, Sustainable Science Management<\/a> and Applied Business in Information Technology<\/a> programs and community members.<\/p>\n

Groups presenting projects include student members of The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers<\/a> UH<\/abbr> Maui College branch, Maui Makers<\/a> and the Maui Amateur Radio Club<\/a>. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers is the largest technical professional society in the world that dedicates itself to the growth of technology for the betterment of humanity.<\/p>\n

Later in the afternoon, a panel of experts will share their field experience in science and technology, including James Yenne, former program manager of Microsoft<\/a>. Yenne, a serial tech entrepreneur currently on Maui, will present on the business of startups. Also included in the schedule is a panel discussion with distinguished professionals about what the future holds for careers in science and technology.<\/p>\n

Lindsay Komai<\/strong>, student chair of the Innovation Day event said, “I’m excited to be a part of the technological movement. The innovations and ideas that the students have here at UHMC<\/abbr> have extraordinary potential. The event is where students can showcase their hard work and skills and offer them to the community.”<\/p>\n

Those interested in pursuing a career in science and technology can also take advantage of the concurrent Career and College Transfer day sessions. The college’s CareerLink<\/a> program is hosting the fair where attendees can receive career guidance and explore possibilities to further their education. Counselors from various academic programs such as Engineering Technology<\/a>, Sustainable Science Management and Applied Business and Information Technology will be on hand to advise on different baccalaureate and associate degrees available at UH<\/abbr> Maui College and in the UH<\/abbr> System.<\/p>\n
