Access to food, housing, healthcare and financial stability can impact a student\u2019s success. To better understand these challenges that students across the 10 campuses of the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> face daily, UH<\/abbr> has launched a student basic needs survey<\/a>. The survey is anonymous and confidential and open from February 3 through March 10. The data gathered will be used to improve student support programs.<\/p>\n

The Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs<\/a> is responsible for the survey and is asking faculty and staff to help get the word out to students.<\/p>\n

“Any support you can provide in encouraging student participation is appreciated,” said Farrah-Marie Gomes, associate vice president for student affairs, in an email to UH<\/abbr> employees. “The insights gathered will help the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> develop and enhance programs that directly address these student basic needs, fostering a more supportive and equitable campus environment.”<\/p>\n

Why it matters<\/h2>\n

Survey responses will also help evaluate the 2024–2027 UH<\/abbr> Student Basic Needs Master Plan<\/a>, which identifies student priorities across UH<\/abbr> campuses. Responses will be combined to highlight key areas for improvement.<\/p>\n

All UH<\/abbr> students have access to The Virtual Basic Needs Caf\u00e9<\/a>, a new online resource designed to help them find essential support, including food, housing and financial assistance. It is free and available Sunday to Thursday from 8 p.m. to midnight, and Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. Students can connect during these hours to get guidance on securing the resources they need.<\/p>\n
