Born and raised in <span aria-label=\"Hauula,\">Hau&#699;ula,<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Koolauloa\">Ko&#699;olauloa<\/span> on the north shore of <span aria-label=\"Oahu,\">O&#699;ahu,<\/span> Cheyanne Kapulelehua Greene has found ways to connect her interests throughout her educational journey.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I have a strong interest in learning more about the environment and the geological processes that created the Earth we know today,&rdquo; said Greene, who is a student in both the <abbr title=\"university of hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa <a href=\"https:\/\/www.soest.hawaii.edu\/soestwp\/\">School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology<\/a> (<abbr>SOEST<\/abbr>) and <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/hshk\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaiinuiakea\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½nui&#257;kea<\/span> School of Hawaiian Knowledge<\/a>. &ldquo;I\u2019m also truly passionate about teaching and integrating <span aria-label=\"ike\">&#699;ike<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> (Hawaiian knowledge) and <span aria-label=\"olelo\">&#699;&#333;lelo<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> into what I share with others.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_210031\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-210031\" style=\"width: 214px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/manoa-soest-greene-214x300.jpg\" alt=\"student posing\" width=\"214\" height=\"300\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-210031\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/manoa-soest-greene-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/manoa-soest-greene-93x130.jpg 93w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/manoa-soest-greene.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 214px) 100vw, 214px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-210031\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Greene at an outreach event for Lyon Arboretum.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Supporting education in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Greene has pursued a variety of opportunities to educate youth and promote education in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii.\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½.<\/span> For the past two years, she worked as an assistant for the Earth Planets <span aria-label=\"Ike\">&#699;Ike<\/span> Kuleana summer program, a one-week experience for high school students and teachers that provides exposure to the geosciences, careers pathways and the importance of geoscience within the community. Additionally, Greene works as an educational assistant at <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/lyon\/\">Lyon Arboretum<\/a> in M&#257;noa Valley, where she teaches K&#8211;12 students through environmental science-based lessons.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Our mission is to promote sustainability, conservation, and Hawaiian culture through indoor and outdoor activities,&rdquo; Greene shared regarding her work at Lyon Arboretum. &ldquo;I also lead students on hikes and garden work around the arboretum. It\u2019s incredibly fulfilling to watch students discover new perspectives on the environment.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>On the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa campus, Greene also serves as a Teach for America <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> campus ambassador. She promotes the organization\u2019s mission of addressing educational inequity and expanding educational opportunities for all students.<\/p>\n<h2><span aria-label=\"Olelo\">&#699;&#332;lelo<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Hawaii,\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½,<\/span> Earth science<\/h2>\n<p>As a graduate of Kamehameha Schools Kap&#257;lama campus, Greene gained a solid foundation in <span aria-label=\"olelo\">&#699;&#333;lelo<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Hawaii.\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½.<\/span> In the <abbr>SOEST<\/abbr> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.soest.hawaii.edu\/earthsciences\/\">Department of Earth Sciences<\/a>, she is putting those skills to use.
