Among them are Casey Chow and Marielle Acupan, whose inspiring journeys highlight the program\u2019s life-changing impact.<\/p>\n<h2>Casey Chow: Finding the fun<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/hawaii-culinary-chow-c-214x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"214\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-208332\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/hawaii-culinary-chow-c-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/hawaii-culinary-chow-c-93x130.jpg 93w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/hawaii-culinary-chow-c.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 214px) 100vw, 214px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Casey Chow\u2019s third try at college has proved to be the charm. After two previous attempts\u2014one in pre-med and the other in information technology\u2014he found himself working at Domino\u2019s Pizza, where he fell in love with the fast-paced nature of food service. An injury sidelined him, but also inspired a new beginning at <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I didn\u2019t realize how fun cooking could be,&rdquo; Chow said. &ldquo;The instructors here are amazing; they encourage questions and foster growth.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Receiving a <abbr>JCCIH<\/abbr> scholarship has been transformative.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I\u2019m paying for this semester out of pocket,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;The scholarship monies mean a lot. It\u2019s the extra breathing room I need.
