In 2024, ʻ\u014dlelo Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> speakers and students in the UH<\/abbr> community shared their favorite Hawaiian words. Mahalo to the students, faculty and staff members who shared words that inspired them, and we look forward to more words in the new year!<\/p>\n

In 2024 the UH<\/abbr> Hilo Ka Haka ʻUla<\/span> o Keʻelikōlani<\/span>, College of Hawaiian Language<\/a> chose mākia as the 2024 Huaʻōlelo<\/span> (Word) of the Year<\/a>. Mākia conveys the meaning of “aim, motto, or purpose.” In these transformative times, it serves as a powerful reminder to move forward with intention and clarity.<\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/5″][vc_column_text css=””]\n
