The John A. Burns School of Medicine and the Âé¶¹´«Ã½Cancer Center.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The University of Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Cancer Center<\/a> and the John A. Burns School of Medicine<\/a> (JABSOM<\/abbr>) have partnered to launch Ka ʻUmeke<\/span> Lama (Hawaiian for “Bowl of Enlightenment”), a groundbreaking initiative aimed at transforming cancer care in Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> and the Pacific. The effort focuses on reducing cancer disparities through cutting-edge research, workforce development, and culturally informed practices. <\/p>\n

“The mission of Ka ʻUmeke<\/span> Lama is to provide equitable access to high-quality cancer care throughout Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> and the U.S.<\/abbr> Affiliated Pacific Islands by developing a strong and integrated oncology infrastructure,” said UH<\/abbr> Cancer Center Director Naoto T. Ueno. “We will help cancer-related healthcare providers to work together to address complex issues in the Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> and the Pacific. Our vision is a future where cancer care is accessible, equitable, and rooted in both scientific innovation and cultural understanding. Everyone should have access to high-quality cancer care, regardless of their background or geography.”<\/p>\n

The effort is a collaboration with Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Cancer Consortium members, including The Queen\u2019s Health Systems and Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Pacific Health.<\/p>\n
