The courses will be taught by <abbr>CIA<\/abbr> Chef Instructor Lance Nitahara, a graduate of both <abbr>CIP<\/abbr> and <abbr>CIA<\/abbr>, who has won multiple competition medals and won Chopped on the Food Network in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants must be a <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> resident or active military personnel stationed in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>, at least 18 years old, and have at least three years of culinary experience in a hotel, resort or restaurant kitchen. Previously participants may also apply.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/culinaryinstitute.hawaii.edu\/\">Apply for cohorts 5 and\/or 6 at the <abbr>CIP<\/abbr> website<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&ldquo;This groundbreaking workforce and professional development program started by focusing on elevating the skills of professional chefs and cooks and has evolved into (chefs) gaining a better understanding of business needs, communication, leadership, teamwork and problem-solving that ultimately develops a higher degree of self-confidence to succeed,&rdquo; said <abbr>CIP<\/abbr> Director Chef Roy Yamaguchi. &ldquo;It\u2019s culinary empowerment!&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/kapiolani-cip-cia-program-3-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"food sitting on a dish\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-207774\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/kapiolani-cip-cia-program-3-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/kapiolani-cip-cia-program-3-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/kapiolani-cip-cia-program-3.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The program, valued at $1,500 per student, is fully scholarship-funded for Cohorts 5 and 6 through the generous support of Mark and Joanie Teruya.
