Other sessions discussed the latest developments in micro\/nano-enabled sensors for smart healthcare, reflecting the conference\u2019s focus on cutting-edge translational research.<\/p>\n<p>Ten <abbr>UH<\/abbr> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eng.hawaii.edu\/\">College of Engineering<\/a> faculty members presented their findings, a significant achievement for the institution. <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Professor Wayne Shiroma noted, &ldquo;That ten <abbr>UH<\/abbr> engineering faculty are presenting papers at this premier conference demonstrates how <abbr>UH<\/abbr> is at the forefront in this field.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/manoa-engineering-nanomed-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Two people flashing shaka with the I E E E nanomed sign\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-207580\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/manoa-engineering-nanomed-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/manoa-engineering-nanomed-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/manoa-engineering-nanomed.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The conference also provided invaluable opportunities for more than 20 <abbr>UH<\/abbr> students. <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Professor and general chair of the conference, Aaron Ohta, emphasized the significance of their involvement.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The benefit to them is not only learning about the topical research, but also networking with field experts in their own backyard,&rdquo; Ohta said. &ldquo;This exposure to global leaders in nano and molecular medicine is expected to inspire <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>\u2019s next generation of researchers and innovators.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to advancing research, the conference has brought tangible benefits to <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>. More than 130 researchers and their families traveled to the islands, boosting local businesses and demonstrating the state\u2019s ability to provide an ideal setting for researchers looking to collaborate. Ohta highlighted the broader impact of the event, saying, &ldquo;This conference brings together engineers and biologists with the goal of improving biomedical research and healthcare.
