Leeward Community College\u2019s<\/a> annual family fun fair is growing! The 34th annual Discovery Fair<\/a> will be held on Saturday, November 2, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Puʻuloa<\/span> (Pearl City) campus, with more educational activities for the keiki and more ʻono<\/span> food than in recent years.<\/p>\n

The Discovery Fair activities, hosted by Leeward\u2019s faculty and staff, are designed to pique the interests of young minds and engage them in physical and mental games that promote learning.<\/p>\n

Besides long-time favorites like Quicksand Goo, Slime Time and Phun with Physics, newer activities include voyaging and navigation, Beetle Battleship, paper airplane races, operating basic machinery and using gummi Bears to make fuel.<\/p>\n

There will be several cultural activities, including Hawaiian makahiki games, ʻulu<\/span> maika (rolling stone disks), hū (Hawaiian spinner top) and kōnane (board game), making your own Filipino star (parol), and creating Korean wooden pendants and bracelets.<\/p>\n

“Every year we have new members of our faculty and staff who join our ʻohana<\/span>,” said Jenny Watada, faculty co-chair of Discovery Fair. “They bring new ideas and experiences to share through their activities and the kids love it!”<\/p>\n

Fair attendees can enjoy food from local vendors, including: Happy Belly Eatery, HI Cravings, Kona Ice, Krazy Dogs, Olay\u2019s Thai Lao Cuisine, Paradise Kettle Corn, Pop Culture Artisan Pops, Simply Ono and Subway. Leeward\u2019s Culinary Arts Program will also host Ala ʻIke<\/span> Grill, serving up burgers, hot dogs and shave ice.<\/p>\n

102.7 Da Bomb will DJ and give away prizes, while Balloon Monsoon and Mr. O the Magician (Harvey Ouchi) provide entertainment throughout the day. Ouchi is also a proud alumnus from Leeward CC<\/abbr>\u2019s first graduating class in 1970!<\/p>\n
