Malte Stuecker<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

An associate professor at the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Mānoa was honored for his significant contributions to Earth and space science with the James B. Macelwane Medal<\/a> from the American Geophysical Union (AGU<\/abbr>). As part of the award, he will also become an AGU<\/abbr> Fellow.<\/p>\n

Malte Stuecker\u2019s research is on the dynamics, predictability and impacts of climate variability and projected climate change, with an emphasis on the Indo-Pacific region. “I am very grateful to receive this recognition. I am thankful for my mentors, postdocs, students, and colleagues who make up a research community that is exciting, challenging, and fun,” said Stuecker, who is appointed in the Department of Oceanography<\/a> and the International Pacific Research Center<\/a> in the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology<\/a> (SOEST<\/abbr>). “It is a privilege to conduct research that I am passionate about and to be part of this community.”<\/p>\n

Stuecker joins a distinguished group of scientists, leaders and communicators recognized by AGU<\/abbr> for advancing science. Each honoree reflects AGU<\/abbr>‘s vision for a thriving, sustainable and equitable future supported by scientific discovery, innovation and action.<\/p>\n

Stuecker earned degrees from the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg in Germany as well as from UH<\/abbr> Mānoa. Prior to his current appointment in SOEST<\/abbr>, he was an assistant project leader at the IBS Center for Climate Physics in South Korea and a NOAA Climate & Global Change postdoctoral fellow at the University of Washington in Seattle.<\/p>\n

AGU<\/abbr> honorees will be recognized at AGU<\/abbr>24, which will convene more than 25,000 attendees from more than 100 countries in Washington, D.C. and online in December. The AGU<\/abbr> announcement highlights that “these honorees have transformed our understanding of the world, impacted our everyday lives, improved our communities and contributed to solutions for a sustainable future.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
