Macelwane Medal<\/a> from the American Geophysical Union (<abbr>AGU<\/abbr>). As part of the award, he will also become an <abbr>AGU<\/abbr> Fellow.<\/p>\n<p>Malte Stuecker\u2019s research is on the dynamics, predictability and impacts of climate variability and projected climate change, with an emphasis on the Indo-Pacific region. &ldquo;I am very grateful to receive this recognition. I am thankful for my mentors, postdocs, students, and colleagues who make up a research community that is exciting, challenging, and fun,&rdquo; said Stuecker, who is appointed in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.soest.hawaii.edu\/oceanography\/\">Department of Oceanography<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/iprc.soest.hawaii.edu\/\">International Pacific Research Center<\/a> in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.soest.hawaii.edu\/soestwp\/\">School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology<\/a> (<abbr>SOEST<\/abbr>). &ldquo;It is a privilege to conduct research that I am passionate about and to be part of this community.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It is a privilege to conduct research that I am passionate about and to be part of this community.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Stuecker joins a distinguished group of scientists, leaders and communicators recognized by <abbr>AGU<\/abbr> for advancing science. Each honoree reflects <abbr>AGU<\/abbr>&#8216;s vision for a thriving, sustainable and equitable future supported by scientific discovery, innovation and action.<\/p>\n<p>Stuecker earned degrees from the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg in Germany as well as from <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa. Prior to his current appointment in <abbr>SOEST<\/abbr>, he was an assistant project leader at the IBS Center for Climate Physics in South Korea and a NOAA Climate &amp; Global Change postdoctoral fellow at the University of Washington in Seattle.<\/p>\n<p><abbr>AGU<\/abbr> honorees will be recognized at <abbr>AGU<\/abbr>24, which will convene more than 25,000 attendees from more than 100 countries in Washington, D.C. and online in December. The <abbr>AGU<\/abbr> announcement highlights that &ldquo;these honorees have transformed our understanding of the world, impacted our everyday lives, improved our communities and contributed to solutions for a sustainable future.&rdquo;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Malte Stuecker won the James B.
