After nearly a decade of training, living and performing in New York City and on major stages across North America, Joshua “Baba” Tavares returned home—not just to Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>, but to his cultural roots. This fall, the Hōnaunau native will lead the cast of Puana<\/em><\/a>, the latest hana keaka (theatre production) emerging out of the Hawaiian theatre program<\/a> at the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa. The play, performed primarily in ʻōlelo<\/span> Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> (Hawaiian language), delves into the spiritual connections between K\u0101naka Maoli (Native Hawaiians) and their kūpuna (ancestors).<\/p>\n
