Josh Green.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span aria-label=\"Hilinaiikomauaalohanokeakua\">Hilina&#699;iikomauaalohanokeakua<\/span> &ldquo;<span aria-label=\"Hilinai\">Hilina&#699;i<\/span> &rdquo; Brown begins her freshman year at the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa with a clear sense of purpose, driven by her passion for nursing and her commitment to delivering essential healthcare to the <span aria-label=\"Waianae\">Wai&#699;anae<\/span> community.<\/p>\n<p>The straight-A graduate of Kapolei High School was awarded with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.davislevin.com\/our-firm\/scholarship\/\">Hawaii High School Humanitarian Scholarship<\/a>, a $10,000 award from the Davis Levin Livingston Charitable Foundation. The annual scholarship recognizes a local high school senior who has demonstrated civic engagement and plans to continue public service in college and beyond. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I feel that it is my responsibility to take what I learn and provide for my community.<br \/>&#8212;<span aria-label=\"Hilinai\">Hilina&#699;i<\/span> Brown<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Joined by her family members and school mentors, Brown was recognized by Gov. Josh Green, Mark S. Davis, partner and trustee of the Davis Levin Livingston Charitable Foundation, and <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> President David Lassner at a congratulatory ceremony at the Governor\u02bbs Office in September.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We had over fifty applicants apply from across the state to be this year\u2019s High School Humanitarian Scholar and <span aria-label=\"Hilinai\">Hilina&#699;i<\/span> is the best example of selfless contribution to public service which she will continue as she begins her college career at <abbr>UH<\/abbr>,&rdquo; said Davis.<\/p>\n<p>For Brown, the scholarship is a significant honor and a chance to give back to her community. &ldquo;I feel really blessed to receive this award,&rdquo; she said. &ldquo;I didn\u2019t know it was just one person who would be chosen, but I am excited to put it toward a good cause.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<h2>Inspired by family members, health academy <\/h2>\n<p>Brown\u2019s path to healthcare was inspired by her family, particularly an aunt who worked in psychiatric care, as well as her time in Kapolei High School&#8217;s health academy. Her commitment to serving others and collaborating for a greater cause was further cultivated through her involvement in public service projects, including blood drives, community clean-ups, the restoration of Native Hawaiian plants, and beach conservation efforts. These experiences deepened her passion for making a meaningful impact alongside others.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;At Kapolei, I was supported by great teachers and counselors, and my parents and family, who helped me pursue the nursing pathway my senior year. It really helped prepare me for college and confirmed my passion for healthcare,&rdquo; Brown said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_203277\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-203277\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/manoa-nursing-brown-hilinai-gov-office-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"group photo with brown receiving scholarship\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-203277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/manoa-nursing-brown-hilinai-gov-office-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/manoa-nursing-brown-hilinai-gov-office-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/manoa-nursing-brown-hilinai-gov-office.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-203277\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Brown was awarded the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> High School Humanitarian Award at the Governor&#8217;s Office.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Thanks to her high school experiences and exposure to the nursing profession, Brown was accepted into the competitive <a href=\"https:\/\/nursing.hawaii.edu\/nursing-bachelor\/high-school-direct-entry-in-nursing\/\">High School Direct Entry Nursing Program<\/a> at the <a href=\"http:\/\/nursing.hawaii.edu\">School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene<\/a>. This cohort-based program will enable her to earn a <abbr title=\"bachelor of science\">BS<\/abbr> in nursing within four years.<\/p>\n<p>Her long-term goal is to work at the <span aria-label=\"Waianae\">Wai&#699;anae<\/span> Coast Comprehensive Health Center (<abbr>WCCHC<\/abbr>), where she hopes to serve as a community health nurse.
