Performed primarily in <span aria-label=\"olelo\">&#699;&#333;lelo<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> (Hawaiian language), the play also commemorates the 10th anniversary of <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/hanakeaka\/\">Hawaiian Theatre program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Puana<\/em> tells the story of a group of contemporary musicians who uncover their genealogical connections through <span aria-label=\"mookuauhau\">mo&#699;ok&#363;&#699;auhau<\/span> (family history) and poetic compositions. As they explore their artistic paths, they come to realize the significance of their k&#363;puna and the enduring influence of their ancestors.<\/p>\n<p>The hana keaka brings together an impressive creative team, such as <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa Hawaiian language professor, composer Kumu Hula R. Keawe Lopes, Jr., Kumu Hula Tracie <span aria-label=\"Kaonohilani\">Ka&#699;&#333;nohilani<\/span> Lopes, N&#257; H&#333;k&#363; Hanohano award-winning musician Zachary <span aria-label=\"Alakai\">Alaka&#699;i<\/span> Lum, <span aria-label=\"Moolono\">Mo&#699;olono<\/span> and playwright Kaipulaumakaniolono Baker, and M&#257;ori composer and recording artist Tawaroa Kawana.<\/p>\n<p>Helping bring this hana keaka to life are Chris Patrinos (scenic designer), Noelani Montas (lighting and projection designer) and <span aria-label=\"Kaiukapu\">Ka&#699;iukapu<\/span> Baker and Maile Speetjens (costume designers).<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I\u2019m excited about the magic that\u2019s going to happen.
