Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Tech Days of Fall 2024<\/a> kicks off on September 18. The series of free events to provide additional learning for students and boost jobs in the tech and cyber sectors, will launch with the grand opening of the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Cybersecurity Clinic at the Walter Dods Jr. RISE Center.<\/p>\n

UH<\/abbr> and the Chamber of Commerce Hawaii co-sponsor the series, in collaboration with 15 local organizations, to increase awareness of and enhance Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>\u2019s skilled-tech workforce and the rising demand for local jobs in the rapidly growing tech and cyber industries.<\/p>\n

“As one of the largest local employers of IT<\/abbr> talent, UH<\/abbr> represents both the supply and demand elements in the IT<\/abbr> sector workforce,” said Garret Yoshimi, UH<\/abbr> vice president for information technology and chief information officer. “Modern IT<\/abbr> and collaboration skills are critical prerequisites to success in virtually all career paths. We are excited to help host and promote highly engaged collaborations between industry and education that ultimately leads to great jobs for our graduates.”<\/p>\n

Chamber of Commerce Hawaii President and CEO Sherry Menor-McNamara said, “The Chamber of Commerce Hawaii is a proud partner of Tech Days of Fall 2024, which matches tech employers with local students via career fairs, talk stories and externship experiences. Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>\u2019s Tech Industry is making strides to put Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at the forefront of innovation and IT<\/abbr> security, so it is critical for the economic future of our state that we prepare our young people for these in-demand careers. The events will also bring awareness to Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>\u2019s thriving tech industry.”<\/p>\n

UH<\/abbr> Cybersecurity Clinic, Bazye product launch<\/h2>\n

UH<\/abbr> was selected to receive $1 million in funding and support from Google\u2019s Cybersecurity Clinics Fund to establish the UH<\/abbr> Cybersecurity Clinics<\/a>. Beginning in January 2025, the UH<\/abbr> Cybersecurity Clinics will offer free online courses and workshops in introductory cybersecurity topics to 500 UH<\/abbr> students over five years.<\/p>\n

The kickoff will also feature the early version launch of a new software product from Bayze<\/a>, a Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>-based company that has been working with UH<\/abbr> student interns to develop a social network loyalty app. Attendees will get to be part of the early adopter program and receive promotions and rewards from local businesses.<\/p>\n

Besides UH<\/abbr> and Chamber of Commerce Hawaii, event partners include Hawaii Defense Alliance, Pacific Intelligence Innovation Initiative, Honolulu Tech Week, CIO<\/abbr> Council of Hawaii, Association for Computing Machinery Student Chapter, IT<\/abbr> Sector Partnerships, CyberHawaii, Hawaii Annual Code Challenge, Pacific Center for Advanced Technology Training, PACE, ThriveHI, Information Technology Management Association, and the Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Department of Education.<\/p>\n
