The <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/nhpol\/ao\/hawaiian-calendar\/\">Hawaiian Calendar Event <span aria-label=\"Moolelo\">Mo&#699;olelo<\/span> project<\/a> will feature posts on <abbr>NHPoL<\/abbr>\u2019s Instagram (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/nhpolmanoa\/\">@nhpolmanoa<\/a>) that highlight significant Native Hawaiian cultural, historical, or commemorative events. Viewers were asked to share stories of influential wahine (women) leaders in their culture, family or community. The post prompted users to reflect on the wisdom passed down by these wahine and how they have served as sources of inspiration. One of the responses came from Wiliama Sanchez, a staff member from <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/studentsuccess\/\">Division of Student Success<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sanchez\u2019 post in May 2024:<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;My mother has truly taught me what it means to authentically care for myself, my family, and my community. Every morning before I head out to work, she tells me &lsquo;uplift the l&#257;hui.&rsquo; My mother has dedicated her life to caring for the children of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> as a Social Worker with Child Welfare Services.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<h2>Breathing life into connections<\/h2>\n<p>The driving force behind this initiative is Kamakani Albano, a graduate student in <a href=\"https:\/\/politicalscience.manoa.hawaii.edu\/\">political science<\/a> who is leading the project at <abbr>NHPoL<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It is my hope that through featuring our various stories, we remember our kuleana (responsibility) to <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> and her keiki (children), while breathing life into the connections we have to one another across cultures, <span aria-label=\"aina\">&#699;&#257;ina<\/span> (land) and genealogies,&rdquo; Albano said.<\/p>\n<h2>Connect with <abbr>NHPoL<\/abbr><\/h2>\n<p><abbr>NHPoL<\/abbr> encourages the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa community to keep an eye out for the monthly posts and to share their stories via direct message on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/nhpolmanoa\/?api=postMessage&#038;hl=ar\">Instagram<\/a>.
