With nearly $300,000 in donations, including almost $100,000 this year alone, the <abbr>WCA<\/abbr>\u2019s support has been crucial in ensuring that students can obtain their nursing credentials without financial strain.<\/p>\n<p>During the COVID-19 pandemic, the <abbr>WCA<\/abbr> shifted its scholarship strategy to support <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> Maui College nursing students in three critical areas: covering graduates\u2019 licensing fees, paying for their national board exams and ground transportation, and providing required study software. Additionally, the <abbr>WCA<\/abbr> offers scholarships for graduates pursuing their bachelor of science degrees in nursing.<\/p>\n<h2>Helping future helpers<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/maui-nursing-injection-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Nursing student administering an injection\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-201059\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/maui-nursing-injection-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/maui-nursing-injection-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/maui-nursing-injection.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Many students juggle full-time work and family responsibilities while attending college. Since spring 2020, approximately 60 licensed practical nurse students and 186 registered nurse students have graduated from <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Maui College, all benefiting from <abbr>WCA<\/abbr>\u2019s contributions.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The Wailea Community Association has helped me fulfill my educational goals and I am truly grateful for its generosity,&rdquo; said Mary Jicel Butac, who graduated with a bachelors of science in nursing in May, and works at Hale Makua as a registered nurse. &ldquo;I would not be in this position without the assistance of the <abbr>WCA<\/abbr>.
