(Image courtesy of Mark Salondaka)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The 18-year-old <span aria-label=\"Kaneohe\">K&#257;ne&#699;ohe<\/span> resident was crowned by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.misshawaiivolunteer.org\">Miss <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Volunteer scholarship program<\/a> in December 2023. Dalire has been dancing hula since she was two in her family\u2019s h&#257;lau, Keolalaulani H&#257;lau <span aria-label=\"Olapa\">&#699;Olapa<\/span> O Laka. She is the daughter of Miss Aloha Hula 1999, Kumu Hula Keolalaulani Dalire, and granddaughter of the first and only Miss Hula, Aloha Dalire.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I was inspired to run for Miss <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Teen Volunteer because of my haumana (students) at my h&#257;lau,&rdquo; Dalire said. &ldquo;Working with hundreds of kids in and out of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>, my greatest joy comes from witnessing these children grow into distinguished individuals through their culture. The dual enrollment enabled her to graduate a year early from high school in 2022 at the age of 16, and earn two associate degrees and three certificates of completion from Windward <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr> that same year.<\/p>\n<p>Now a senior at <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span>, Dalire is majoring in <a href=\"https:\/\/westoahu.hawaii.edu\/academics\/degrees\/business-administration\/\">business administration<\/a> with a concentration in <a href=\"https:\/\/westoahu.hawaii.edu\/academics\/degrees\/business-administration\/marketing\/\">marketing<\/a>, and is on track to graduate with her bachelor\u2019s degree this fall.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The faculty and n&#257; kumu (teachers) have been immensely understanding and helpful in my journey as Miss <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Teen Volunteer,&rdquo; Dalire said. &ldquo;I would like to take this opportunity to give a special shoutout and deepest thank you to one of my professors, who helped me shape my platform\u2019s &lsquo;why.&rsquo; The purpose of creating my initiative was to tell others what I wish I was told: &lsquo;You are enough.&rsquo;&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Both Dalire and her mother were students of Edward Keaunui, a <abbr>UH<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> business administration instructor and risk management and insurance coordinator, who also helped Dalire as an interview coach.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Her perseverance, her stick-to-itiveness, and her hard work are what paid off in her securing the crown for this pageant,&rdquo; Keaunui said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_199692\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-199692\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/west-oahu-dalire-miss-teen-hawaii-volunteer-2024-2.jpg\" alt=\"Dalire\" width=\"200\" class=\"size-full wp-image-199692\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/west-oahu-dalire-miss-teen-hawaii-volunteer-2024-2.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/west-oahu-dalire-miss-teen-hawaii-volunteer-2024-2-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/west-oahu-dalire-miss-teen-hawaii-volunteer-2024-2-93x130.jpg 93w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-199692\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dalire\u2019s official photo for Miss Teen Volunteer America.
