Inouye College of Pharmacy (<abbr>DKICP<\/abbr>)<\/a> will assist <abbr>HMSA<\/abbr> and University Health Partners to perform Medication Therapy Management (<abbr>MTM<\/abbr>) for people with chronic diseases in the state of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Our most qualified students will be putting their technical knowledge and people skills to work to help patients achieve better outcomes from their medications,&rdquo; said <abbr>DKICP<\/abbr> Dean Rae Matsumoto.<\/p>\n<p><abbr>MTM<\/abbr> services will be available statewide via telehealth. <abbr>HMSA<\/abbr> will identify a subset of members that will be eligible for this early phase of the program. <abbr>MTM<\/abbr> students will help review a patient\u2019s medication to ensure they are being used appropriately, answering any drug-related questions and determining the most cost-effective options. <abbr>MTM<\/abbr> students will help review a patient\u2019s medication to ensure they are being used appropriately, answering any drug-related questions and determining the most cost-effective options.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Studies show that using pharmacists to provide <abbr>MTM<\/abbr> services improves medication adherence and ensures patients are on the appropriate medications and doses,&rdquo; said Camlyn Masuda, <abbr>DKICP<\/abbr> associate specialist and a coordinator for the new program.<\/p>\n<p>Students can apply and interview for the <abbr>MTM<\/abbr> consultant positions, which will be in addition to their academics.
