After spinning five perfect innings out of the bullpen in University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa’s<\/a> win over CSUN<\/abbr> on May 3, Alex Giroux earned Big West Pitcher of the Week honors for the first time in his career.<\/p>\n

The junior set down all 15 batters he faced out of the bullpen after entering the game with UH<\/abbr> up 3-2 in the fifth inning to earn his fifth win of the season. Giroux ended with a line of five innings pitched with a season-high eight strikeouts.<\/p>\n

Giroux preserved a one-run lead over the final five innings against one of top hitting teams in the Big West by becoming the first UH<\/abbr> pitcher to retire at least 15 straight batters since 2021.<\/p>\n

Giroux was dominant from the fifth through seventh innings, punching out six straight Matador batters over that span to keep UH<\/abbr> up by one. He threw a first-pitch strike to 14 of the 15 batters he faced to pick up his second career relief win when pitching five innings or longer.<\/p>\n

The Rainbow Warriors are tied for the longest active winning streak in the nation at eight games and host UC Riverside in a three-game series May 9–12.<\/p>\n
